OUR TEAM

Emma Baker is a Vermonter now residing in Hyattsville having received a degree from the University of Maryland where she studied viola performance with Katherine Murdock and choral conducting with Edward Maclary. While in school, she was one of the few instrumentalists to engage in choral conducting seminars and lessons as well as performances with the UMD Chamber Singers, a group that routinely sings for the Baltimore and National Symphonies.
Now a dedicated teacher herself, Emma works with the Preparatory Strings ensembles of both the Southern Maryland Youth Orchestra and Chorus in Leonardtown, as well as the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra here in Annapolis.
While Emma began her musical education as a string player, it was her involvement with community Messiah performances and church choirs that shaped the direction of her life and her choice to become a musician.
For that reason, along with many others, she is deeply committed to finding ways to give those musical experiences to others.

  • We follow a traditional Lutheran service.

  • We have a Wednesday night worship and music program; “EveningSong.”One Sunday evening each month, our youth participate in a contemporary service and fellowship hour. 

  • We use the Lutheran Book of Worship;

  • We use the English Standard Version Bible;

  • Our lessons follow the liturgical calendar;

  • We offer communion at each service (Communion is open to baptized Christians who are repentant and believe in Christ as Savior);

  • We confess the ecumenical creeds;

  • We encourage our members to actively participate in worship as: acolytes, assisting ministers, communion assistants, lesson readers, and ushers.

  • Our worship blends traditional hymns and contemporary songs.

  • We have an adult and chimes choir.  We also host guest musicians for special worship services.

  • We encourage our members who are talented musicians to take part in our worship services. Our members play trumpet, flute, classical guitar, acoustic guitar, and oboe.  Several of our members have beautiful singing voices and often offer solos
