Youth Activities

Pre-K through 5th grade

We take every opportunity to involve our youngest children in worship.  Every service, our children are invited to the altar for a Children’s Sermon.  Throughout the year, our kids prepare and present “Faith Goals” during worship.  Our youngest group might sing “Jesus Loves Me”, while our older elementary age kids might lead us in the Apostles Creed.  The Children’s Café is open immediately following our worship service for juice and snacks and then our kids join together for music and song. Sunday School is held between 10:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. In fifth grade, our youth take their 1st Communion and receive their own study Bible from the congregation.

Middle and High School

During the three years of middle school –we prepare our youth for Confirmation – an affirmation of Baptism – a public profession of personal faith, through instruction in the Luther's Small Catechism and Scripture. It is during middle school that our youth serve as acolytes and take a more active role in worship.
We take every opportunity to prepare our high school students for life in college and “out in the world.”  Our high school students are full voting members of the congregation and are actively involved in every aspect of our worship service.  They often host guest speakers for discussion on current topics.

Service Projects

Middle and High School students engage in a variety of self-selected service projects.  In the past, our youth packed hygiene kits for Lutheran World Relief, spear-headed the “Suitcases for Happy Faces” campaign to provide kids in foster care with suitcases to hold their belongings, went Christmas Caroling to nursing homes and visited our home-bound members, and sponsored two international children in need. In addition they visited Washington D.C. and distributed blankets and meals to the homeless.

Work Camp

Our middle and high school students attend work camp every summer where they repair homes for those in need.  To pay their housing and transportation costs at work camp, our youth engage in a variety of fund-raising activities.  They serve in concession stands at local festivals, car shows and sporting events.  They hold bake sales and car washes.  They sell summer plants and holiday arrangements.

Quake Zone and Other Fun Events

And, our kids just have fun!  Every year, our kids attend a regional Quake Zone, where they can meet other Christian kids, praise God through music, song and performance, and discuss areas of interest.
This year our youth also went skiing and ice skating and visited Hershey Park.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is a fun gathering of young children out of the summer's heat to learn and share Christ's love and forgiveness in their lives as well as fun crafts and skits.
